Abstract: When looking at a set of data, it may seem impossible from the outset to determine if that data has been manipulated. It is not intuitive to think that just examining the leading digits could lead to uncovering fraudulent data, but by applying Benford’s Law it is possible to spot inconsistencies and potential fraud in real world data sets.
